Cameras have been installed in and around Kirby Misperton. We will be openly filming the operation. This is for the purposes of crime prevention and public safety.
Some police officers in Kirby Misperton have been issued with body-worn video cameras. The main purpose of the camera, which is attached to the officer’s uniform on the chest, is to capture video and audio evidence.
Body-worn video acts as a deterrent to crime and anti-social behaviour, helps officers to identify suspects, and supports prosecutions, as footage can be used as evidence in court. It also demonstrates transparency around police actions, often in very challenging circumstances.
In the longer term, body-worn video will allow officers to spend more time out in the community, and less time in court and on paperwork
Citizen journalism is a feature of modern life, and police officers are now photographed and filmed more than ever. We recognise the valuable role of the media and amateur photographers, and will seek to co-operate with them as much as possible.
